Head Boy and Head Girl

I'm Nancy and I am the Head Girl at The Gregg School. I haven't been here for very long, in fact it has only been 11 months. Surprised? I was too!
I came to England from South Africa - it was a big change but definitely not a bad one!. Although I am still relatively new to the school and the country, I was already quite familiar with the school as my eldest sister attended The Gregg School when I was at St. Winifred’s School.
I don't have much of a history with this school, but I have definitely made an impact on the school, which has enabled me to get to the position I now hold. The only way I could have made this impact was to throw myself into any activity I could handle. The charity events were an easy one as we have so many throughout the academic year.
Another one is sports. I really have enjoyed taking part in sport at our school. I have been part of the Gregg School netball and rounders teams, helping the netball team get to the Southampton Schools’ Netball Tournament and have also been included in the successes of the rounders team. I also joined athletics club, and took up shot put, coming third in the Independent Schools’ Association’s track and field competition. But even just stepping up to house events and clubs, having the confidence to do so, just goes to show that The Gregg School enjoys "Making the most of individual talent".
On the cultural side of things, I have been involved in all of the drama productions that the school has staged in the time that I have been here, like the musical and the summer production held in the summer, and there are many more to come!
When I came to the school I was a little daunted by the size of the building but inside was a nice small and manageable amount of teachers and students - all so warm and welcoming. I guess the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" comes into play here! But the size of the student body means that everybody knows everybody! And it’s so nice because you feel like you’re walking into your own house. There's a sense of comfort about the school, a sense of belonging, you don't ever have to feel lost because there is always someone there to help, whatever the need or the problem. And for me personally this is what makes the Gregg School so very different to other schools, no one is left out, no matter what your abilities are in areas of school life.
The time I have at the Gregg school is quickly running out but making the most of the time I have is what I strive to do. Soon I will be heading off to college and in no time I will be in University. No doubt it will be a big step for me - everyone has to make changes in their lives at some point and it is tough - but The Gregg School has given me so much more confidence to take that big step out and change it to a small skip, and that sense of courage will stay with me for a very long time.
I will always remember my time at this school. Although it has only been 1 year it’s felt like 4! And I can now go out into the world and be proud to be a leader at the Gregg School, and just to have been a part of it in general. |
I've been lucky enough to have been at The Gregg School since the very beginning of Year 7.
At The Gregg School we are all treated individually and everything is tailored to fit our own needs. For example, I struggled to get all the information from the whiteboard down into my book so I spoke to my teachers about this and suddenly everything changed. They changed how they taught me, which made it much easier for me to understand the work that was set.
