Preparation for a talk on ‘Jumanji’ by Harvir

My film is ‘Jumanji’. I have chosen this because I love adventurous films and I love animals.

After being trapped in a jungle board game for twenty six years, a man wins his release from the game but no sooner has he arrived, he is forced to play again and this time sets the creatures of the jungle loose in the city. When Peter and Judy’s parents leave the children to go to the opera, they find a box with a note on it which warns them to read the instructions. They start to play and soon realize it is very unusual! As the game progresses, their quiet home is taken over by a hungry lion, monkeys, a monsoon, rhinos stampeding … it goes on. Just as they begin to lose hope, Judy wins and everything seems to return to normal, but that is not the end! After many more adventures, everything ends up happy.

One of the themes of the film is friendship. They are all my favourite characters because they are always friends and are very helpful. They work together as a team. There are many special effects. The most impressive bit in the film is when all the animals come into the house. My favourite scene is when all four of them are on the river and the crocodile is trying to get them. it is very exciting. I would recommend this film to the whole family.

Preparation for a talk on ‘Men in Black’ by George

I like comedy and I like a little bit of Sci-Fi and ‘Men in Black’, my film, mixes them perfectly. When I first saw this film it made me fall off my chair with laughter.

‘Men in Black’ is a 1997 science-fiction-action film directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, starring Tommy Lee Jones, Will Smith and Vincent D’Onostio. The film was based on the comic book series by Lowell Cunningham.

The main plot of the film revolves around a bug (code word for an alien species which is similar to a cockroach) which is searching for a miniature galaxy which is also a vast energy source. The galaxy is hidden on a cat’s collar. When members of the public see an alien, they have their memories erased. In the final scene, the camera pulls back into space and Earth is seen in a circular container resembling a marble. It is picked up by an alien hand which throws it, hitting another ‘marble’ which also contains a galaxy, in a game of marbles.

My favourite character is Agent J because he is funny and usually makes funny mistakes. A really good example of J’s funny mistakes is when K gives J the migi-cricket, which is a really small futuristic gun which J thinks is rubbish just because it is small. Later they find the bug and they follow it into a jewellery shop and J accidentally sets off the alarm. They follow the bug outside, J takes aim, fires the gun, misses and blows up a lorry. The blast from the gun is so powerful J goes flying backwards and smashes into a car windscreen.

Preparation for a talk on ‘Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows’ by Daniel

Do you like magic? Do you like make or break moments? Then harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows is the book for you!

At the start of the story, Harry is again in danger from the evil Voldemort. Harry is taken secretly to his friend Ron’s home where Hermione is also. While there, Harry celebrates his birthday when Crimagon shows up with Dumbledore’s will. Each of them is given something in the will.

Voldemort takes over the ministry and is hot on Harry’s heels. Harry, Ron and Hermione are chased from a café for giving themselves away by mentioning Voldemort’s name, which is jinxed. They devise a plan to take back the ministry from Voldemort. By the end of the book Harry’s spell is too powerful for Voldemort and it kills him.

My favourite scene is when Voldemort has killed Harry, or so he thinks. I like this scene because I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I just kept thinking, what’s going to happen? Will he die?

My favourite character is Hermione, because she’s quick thinking and always on the ball. I think one of the main themes is sacrifice in the name of love and hope.

Preparation for a talk on ‘Avatar’ by Jeevan

My film is called ‘Avatar’. It is a science fiction and adventure film. It is par acted and part CGI. The film takes place on Pandora in 2154. the planet is toxic for humans. It is inhabited by the Na’vi, a three metre high, blue skinned species.

Scientists grow na’vi-human hybrid bodies called Avatars that are operated by mental links. Jake Sully is a marine who is in a wheel chair. He replaces his twin brother, a scientist trained as an avatar operator. Dr Grace, head of the Avatar programme, considers Jake as a bodyguard.

While on Pandora, Jake meets a female Na’vi, who rescues him from predators in the forest and takes him to her home tree to teach him their ways. A mining company wants the site so they try to destroy the home tree. Jake decides to help the Na’vi. He unites thousands of warriors from different tribes and suddenly the wild life on the planet join in the fight. Jake destroys the domer before it destroys him and they win.

They turn Jake into his Na’vi body for ever. This film is suitable for anyone who likes science fiction action and adventure. The graphics are brilliant. I like Jake because he is the one who won the war.

Preparation for a talk on ‘Bridge to Terrabithia’ by Sherie

The film I would like to talk about is ‘Bridge to Terrabithia’. I have chosen this film because it is filled with imagination, trolls, tree houses and magical cities.

The film is about a poor boy called Jake. He gets bullied at school. Jake gets very upset. Then a new girl starts in his class. They become friends. Lesley gives Jake a present of a paint set. Lesley and Jake find a forest and build a tree house and create a magical land called Terrabithia. Then Jake gives Lesley a dog because she gave him a present. Jake goes to the museum with his teacher. Lesley drowns. She bangs her head and is unconscious. Jake is very sad and punches the bully in the face, then gets told off by the teacher. He draws a picture of Lesley then builds a bridge to Terrabithia He gets his sister to be a princess for the day and a big troll comes and gets a crown for Jake and his sister.

My favourite character is Lesley because she is as imaginative as Jake. The film has a few special effects in it, for example when Lesley and Jake go to the forest and see a tree troll because it is breaking out.

I would recommend this film to over sevens.

‘Playtime is Important’, by Mariam

Although not everybody would agree, I want to say that I think playtimes are important because it makes you exercise. Every child needs exercise for one hour a day. Exercise is very important because it keeps you fit.

I have several reasons for arguing this point of view. My first reason is that children have fun when they play or exercise and do anything they want to. And they build friendships and sort out problems.

A further reason is children release their energy because if they don’t release their energy, they might lose control in class and they might say things that are bad.

Furthermore, children learn more games from each other and learn to co-operate with each other more and learn to spend their free time effectively.

Therefore, though some people might say that children shouldn’t have playtime, first of all think how you would feel if you were in their place and didn’t have any free time when you were a child.

I think that I have shown that playtime is important.

‘Playtime is Important’, by Victor

Although not everybody would agree, I believe that school playtime is important.

I have several reasons for arguing this point of view. My first reason is that playtime gives exercise to children and exercise can give a healthy body.

A further reason is that playtime will release energy and if you do not release energy, in class you might lose concentration. It is a fact that if you sweat you learn more.

Furthermore, playtime will build friendships and most of all, you will have fun.

Therefore, though some people might argue that children should spend all their time in class, I believe they learn a lot outside.

I think that I have shown that playtimes are very important.

Although not everybody would agree, I want to say that I believe school playtimes are important.

I have several reasons for arguing this point of view. My first reason is exercise. It gives pupils the chance for the pupils to exercise an hour a day.

A further reason is that it releases children’s energy and they might lose concentration if they don’t.

Further more children have fun playing with friends and sort out their problems.

Therefore though some people might say that I learn how to play games and I learn how to co-operate, I think that I have shown how to spend free time effectively.

‘Playtime is Important’, by Saud

Although not everybody would agree, I want to say that I think school playtimes are important.

I have several reasons for arguing this. Firstly, children need exercise. They need this because it raises the heart rate which helps pump blood round the body. Children should do at least one hour of exercise a day.

A further reason is that if they are not let outside, they would not be able to release their energy. They would lose concentration and not be able to get good marks in exams.

Furthermore, children must have fun or they will get bored and would not work hard. In playtimes children build friendships and they sort out differences.

Therefore, although some people may argue that children should work all day, I think I have shown that children should have playtime.
